Like man, animals too have a right. A right to live: a right to be protected and a right to move freely within there natural environment and or the environment where they are domesticated.
In the nearly ten years of the ongoing Book Haram insurgency and the recent upsurge of clash between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers,  animals, mostly domestic, have been a major unidentified casualties. It is on undocumented record that hundreds of animals like cattle,  sheep, goats and others like donkeys,  horses and camels have been killed brutally in cross fire of the ongoing Boko Haram conflict.
Many wild animals as well have either been forced to migrate or have been killed by bullets and air bombing of located Boko Haram camps.
No one has cared to take cognisance of the fact that these animals are living creatures of God too and their lives must be treated with regard and respect.  We may have the right to slaughter animals for consumption but killing them brutally is illegally is a sin against God.

I commend the Nigeria Association of Vet Doctors who recently awarded the owner of the famous gallant dog that died in Borno state while trying to fight a suicide bomber.
Thousand of animal breeders especially in the hinterlands of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states have today been rendered poor by the ongoing Boko Haram conflict which claimed their livestock.
It won't be out of place for government to help them with lifeline to return to their means of livelihoods by providing with resources to own their animals as they begin their return journeys home.
A life without our animals is not possible. Let's all stand to advocate the rights of our animals both domestic and those in the wild.
The federal government must begin to initiate policies that protect even the animals. Owners of animals killed during conflicts or wars being prosecuted by government should be compensated as doing so will help them in promoting the natural ecosystem.
